Meaning of ‘Techshshila’
The word ‘Techshshila’ is derived from the word ‘Takshashila (or Taxila)’, an ancient Indian higher-learning institution situated in Gandahar (now in Pakistan) in 700BC containing world’s biggest library of its time. Often denoted as the ‘Oldest University in the world’, it started as the seat of Vedic learning and attracted learners all over the world.

More than 10,500 students from all over the world studied here. The campus accommodated students who came from as far as Babylonia, Greece, Arabia and China and offered over sixty different courses in various field such as science, mathematics, medicine, politics, warfare , astrology, astronomy, music, religion, and philosophy.
The famous treatise Arthashastra (Sanskrit for The knowledge of Economics) by Chanakya, is said to have been composed in Takshashila itself. Chanakya (or Kautilya), the Maurya Emperor Chandragupta
and the Ayurvedic healer Charaka studied at Takshashila.
